Housing that is green and affordable should be the priority for awarding Key West’s limited remaining building rights. Last Stand will be advocating to keep sustainable features, including rainwater catchment systems shown here, as a part of the incentive system that determines allocation for new building rights. We are recommending a better balance in proposed changes in how incentive points are awarded for new building projects. The proposal would dramatically reduce points for moving beyond a base level certification by Florida Green Building Coalition or LEED, and eliminate some current requirements. The first reading of an ordinance will be considered by Key West City Commission at the April 3rd meeting.
