We’re hiring
Development & Administrative Coordinator/Officer
About Last Stand
Last Stand is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to protecting the natural environment and unique quality of life in the Florida Keys. Founded in 1987, we work at the intersection of land use, water quality, and growth management.
In recent years, our work has expanded to include sustainable affordable housing as an environmental and community issue.
Last Stand achieves its mission through research, education, outreach, and direct advocacy. In practice, that means:
Civic engagement: Monitoring local, state, and federal actions affecting the Keys; attending public meetings; reviewing agendas; and delivering informed public comment
Building coalitions: Developing partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations to advance shared priorities and build community power.
Mobilizing residents: Equipping community members with the information, tools, and opportunities to engage on issues that affect their lives and their environment
Educating and informing: Producing and communicating sound, science- and data-driven research on the issues affecting the Keys' environment and community, for audiences ranging from residents to policymakers.
Serving as a watchdog: Keeping a critical investigative eye on local activities that affect residents and the environment; uncovering what's buried in data, technical documents, and official reports; investigating red flags and pursuing public records when needed; and, when necessary, taking legal action to protect the integrity of the Keys' environment and community.
